Check out pcper.com and search HD 7850 review to see how this card stacks up against the competition, and you will get a more complete picture (no pun intended). But to summarize: at $250, this card destroys the Nvidia GTX 560ti ($230) and runs just short of the GTX 570 ($300-330) unless you overclock. The figures I'm using are valid at time of purchase. You can assume the lowest possible price either at Amazon or at a competitor. Further info. Pros: 1. power consumption. This card only draws about 130W on ONE 6-pin PCIe power cord, which is ridiculously low for its capabilities. A PCIe slot already provides a bit more than 70W, so the draw on the power supply is minimal. This means you can upgrade without spending a lot on a power supply (minimum 500W). The 570 needs either 2 PCIe 6-pins or a 6 and a 6+2 with 550w - 600w minimum power supply,... I tried everything except hooking the 7850 straight up to my LCD and using my LCD's speakers. This is what I just did and so far, 10 songs, I don't think I've heard it skip, unless it happens so fast that I'm not picking up on it. On the Onkyo receiver, when it would skip, the no audio source would show up for a second while the receiver looked for the audio. I don't understand why my HD5770 would work fine with the Onkyo 707 and the 7850 would not. Is it a problem with the receiver or the 7850? I would need either another 7850 or another receiver to confirm, both of which I don't have. I'll do more research and update soon.:End Edit I was so stoked to upgrade my Radeon HD5770 with this card for summertime gaming. My gaming/HTPC consists of an Intel i7-860, Asus P7P55D, G.Skill 8GB DDR3, Crucial 256GB M4, Onkyo TX-SR707, AV123 ELT525T Speakers, and Samsung 40" LCD (upgrading... This Sapphire version is awesome with its dual fan to not only keep it cool but it also deadly silent. Upgrading from a 5770, it is the exact same size when put into my case but the performance destroys it. I can now play Skyrim, Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 all on Ultra maxed out settings with AA/AF all the way up as well while getting steady unwavering frame rates in every game. The 7850 will eat up and chew any game you throw at it with no hiccup at all. This card was quite the pleasant surprise that i would recommend to anyone looking for an upgrade. Best video card owned to date!Cons: None whatsoever. Other Thoughts: Literally the best card i've had, besides the geforce 8800gt when it came out at the time. The 7850 is a BEAST for the price. |
